meet KAT & KAY

Heartily Design co-owners and calligraphers

We are friends and an aunt-niece duo (can you guess who’s who?) with a passion for calligraphy and design. We met through our church in Madison and bonded over our interest in calligraphy, art, and love of similar styles.

About Heartily

Heartily is our avenue to create and share the beautiful art of words known as calligraphy. While the word ‘heartily’ has many different definitions, the one we like most is in the Merriam-Webster dictionary: ‘with all sincerity; wholeheartedly’. This is how we approach our work because it is truly our passion and joy.

Heartily is built on the foundation of giving glory to God through our works.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
(Colossians 3:23)

I started learning calligraphy while I was planning for my wedding in 2019. Some of my favorite parts were addressing invitation envelopes and creating my own wedding signs! After my wedding, I was itching to create more and began selling acrylic wedding signs on Etsy. After 6 short months of managing the shop and further developing my style, I knew I wanted to pursue becoming a full time wedding calligrapher.

Previously working in a tech services role for a healthcare software company, I have over 8 years of customer support experience and was also a coach to teach communication and task management skills. Amazing service is something I stand by, always.

Kay

I have always loved art and creating. I have memories of creating bubble letters and different font styles since elementary school. When I found calligraphy in 2015, I instantly fell in love with the art form. In the beginning, I used calligraphy to spruce up my bullet journal and write Bible verses that inspired me. In 2018, I created my wedding signs and since then I have made some signs for my church and my friends’ weddings. I knew that I loved making art and would want to pursue it one day.

Prior to becoming a wedding calligrapher, I worked with autistic children as a therapist and most recently, I started a small business as a home daycare provider so I could work from home and be with my daughter.
